Environmental Health and Appropriate Technology
Concern America field volunteers work with local communities to improve living conditions with locally available materials.
The communities where Concern America works too often do not have access to clean water, healthy sanitation, efficient cookstoves, or electricity.
Field volunteers who are trained in environmental health using appropriate technologies engage the community to address these issues. Community-centered and maintained improvements include:
• Potable water systems providing clean water to entire communities.
• Fuel-efficient stoves which save precious forest and reduce respiratory illness caused by cooking over an open flame.
• Purifying water sources using locally available filter systems.
• Compost latrines.
• Environmental health education and organizing to ensure the community knows how to use and maintain these improvements.
